Bastille, what to expect? I had no idea! There has been an underground swell that something is really kicking off for this band. Yet to release an album but selling out venues across the land. The show had been moved to Rock City due to the speed in which the tickets had sold for the Rescue Rooms. They then sold out Rock City! Realistically, as I sat in the Social with a pint, I thought, they have two tracks that I really like so it's worth going to watch them because surely they will have one or two more worth a listen?
Arriving onstage with the mysterious Twin Peaks playing in the background they launched straight into 'Bad Blood' the title track from their debut album. The crowd scream and sing back the words to band as if they have been around for years! The crowd, a real mixed audience, made up mainly of young females and 'quifftastic scenesters', a mosh pit designed by GHD, but also containing older more seasoned gig goers. Therein I feel lies the success of this band, they appeal to a broad spectrum of fans and age groups.
They have the good looking lead singer but they also have some killer tunes. And let's not forget Dan Smith's vocals, impeccable tonight. Highlights were 'What would you do' the mash up of 'Of the Night/Rhythm is a Dancer' 'Pompeii' in which support band To Kill a King come back on stage to join in and the grand finale 'Flaws'. This sees Smith do a grand tour of Rock City to sing alongside the fans who have lapped up tonight's performance. The last person I saw do this at the Rock was Johnny Borrell of Razorlight before they went massive! You sense 'going massive' is only a matter of time for Bastille if they continue to play live shows as energising and joyful as tonight. Go and see them in a small venue while you can would be my advice!!
Some footage I took from the gig :-)

Half Man Half Biscuit - Rock City
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw1XB7W_4QE
I've been up to no good
I've been dissed in the hood
I've been locked in The Rock City, Notts
I've had stars in my eyes
I told thousands of lies
When arrested at Cowes ribing yachts
From Tonight Matthew, I'm Going To Be With Jesus by Half Man Half Biscuit
This is a comment I got from a project I'm doing at the moment!! Made me smile!! :-))) "I have seen them in Nottingham, sadly not in The Rock City. I used to know a girl from there, apparently her underwear is hanging on a wall there somewhere."

Top Album of the Noughties!!
I was going to go through the top 30 albums but I thought that would be pointless!!
The Interpol Album...Turn on The Bright Lights
What can I say!!!
Saw them for the first time in 2003 on the NME tour in Liverpool!!
Instantly loved them..their sound..their image!! They were only the second band on out of four.
Anyway..the album is dark, vibrant, and ultimately a compelling listen.
Released in 2002, it will still be listened too for many years.,which is the test of a classic album.
Recently introduced Interpol to a good friend of mine..Yep, It still sounds fookin great!!
Seen them 7 times now!!
I actually went to see them in Tokyo...met them..That's a story for another blog post... :-D

The story Behind Elanor Rigby
Like many of McCartney's songs, the melody and first line of the song came to him as he was playing around on his piano. The name that came to him, though, was not Eleanor Rigby but Miss Daisy Hawkins. In 1966, McCartney recalled how he got the idea for his song:
"I was sitting at the piano when I thought of it. The first few bars just came to me, and I got this name in my head... Daisy Hawkins picks up the rice in the church. I don't know why. I couldn't think of much more so I put it away for a day. Then the name Father McCartney came to me, and all the lonely people. But I thought that people would think it was supposed to be about my Dad sitting knitting his socks. Dad's a happy lad. So I went through the telephone book and I got the name McKenzie."
He originally imagined Daisy as a young girl, but anyone who cleaned up in churches would probably be older. If she were older, she might have missed not only the wedding she cleans up after but also her own. Gradually, McCartney developed the theme of the loneliness of old age, morphing his song from the story of a young girl to a elderly woman whose loneliness is worsened by having to clean up after happy couples.
Eleanor rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father mckenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

NoAh AnD tHe WhALe - The FiRst Days Of SpRiNg
I can't say how talented I think this band are!! February the 4th 2008 is the first time I saw them at the Social in Nottingham...A special night in lots of ways. I had only heard a couple of tracks they had done but watched the vids on youtube and thought, got to see them before they go large!! I wasn't disappointed with the gig, I love to hear violins and trumpets along with guitars! I think they sound amazing live! Anyway, I love the fact they have done a film and an album together..well worth the £14 I spent. The NME gave it a 9/10 and I would agree..for both the concept, the album and the film!! They where on the main stage at Leeds Fest on Saturday afternoon and their sound has become so powerful and orchestral!! I think I need to see them in a small venue again..very soon..buy it and keep original british artists in beer money..you wont be disappointed!!!! :-Dx

The View as well!!Supergrass... Can't wait!!
The weather is sunny for once, thankfully, as it is open air and in a forest??
I hope they play my favourite song which is Fire in my Heart!!
Checkout the videobar at the bottom of the page.
The first one on the left is the oficially video.
It is such a beautiful song and goes like this:
Fire in my Heart
I've got a fire in my heart for you
I've got a fire in my heart for you
I've got a fire in my heart
'Though I'm falling apart
Still I've got a fire in my heart for you
I've got pins and needles for you
I've got pins and needles for you
You've got needles and pins
And the seven deadly sins
Still I've got a fire in my heart for you
I've a butterfly stomach for you
I've a butterfly stomach for you
And as the cars fly by
I just break down and cry
Still I've got a fire in my heart for you
Well the monkey puzzle tree
Has some questions
For the watchdogs of the profane
And I ask is it sad
That I'm driving myself mad
As this fire in my heart turns blue?
I've got a fire in my heart for you (X4)

I tried to do handstands for you
I tried to do headstands for you
Everytime I fell you on yeah everytime I fell
I tried to do handstands for you
But everytime I fell for you
I'm permanently black and blue, permanently blue for you
I tried to do handstands for you
I tried to do headstands for you
Everytime I fell on you yeah everytime I fell
I tried to do handstands but everytime I fell for you
I'm permanently black and blue, permanently blue for
You-ooo etc...
For you-ooo etc...
So black and blue-oooo etc...
For you-ooo etc...
I grabbed some frozen strawberries so I could ice your bruisy knees
But frozen things they all unfreeze and now I taste like
All those frozen strawberries I used to chill your bruisy knees,
Hot July ain't good to me I'm pink and black and blue
I got bruises on my knees for you
And grass stains on my knees for you
Got holes in my new jeans for you
Got pink and black and blue
Got bruises on my knees for you
And grass stains on my knees for you
Got holes in my new jeans for you
Got pink and black and blue for
You-ooo etc...
For you-ooo etc....
So black and blue-ooo etc...
For you-oooo etc....
Do-doo-do-do-do
Bruised - a good description...permanently blue for you!!! just an addictive melody which makes you smile!! :-Dx

Shake me into the night and I’m an easy lover
Take me into the fight and I’m an easy brother
And I’m on fire
Burn my sweet effigy I’m a road runner
Spill my guts on a wheel I wanna taste ah huh
And I’m on fire, and I’m on fire
And I’m on fire, I’m on fire
And I’m on fire, I’m on fire
Wire me up to machines I’ll be your prisoner
Find it hard to believe, you are my murderer
I’m on fire behind you
Heads a falling sky
I’m on fire, I’m on fire
And I’m on fire, I’m on fire
Move on, You got to move on
Im gonna get you real good
So you can shake on
Move on, You got to move on
I’m gonna get ya real good
So you can shake on
When I heard this song driving home on Monday night it summed up exactly how I feel at the moment..on fire!! yeah baby :-Dx

Noah & The Whale - Blue Skies
This is a song for anyone
With a broken heart
This is a song for anyone
Who can't get out of bed
I'll do anything
To be happy
Oh cause blue skies are calling
But I know that it's hard
This is the last song
That I write
While still in love with you
This is the last song
That I write
While you're even on my mind
Cause it's time to leave
Those feelings behind
Oh cause blue skies are calling
But I know that it's hard
I don't think that it's the end
But I know we can't keep going
I don't think that it's the end
But I know we can't keep going
But blue skies are calling
Oh yeah blue skies are calling
Oh blue skies are calling
This is a song for anyone
With a broken heart
This is a song for anyone
Who can't get out of bed
I'll do anything
To be happy

Fear
For each a road
For everyman a religion
Find everybody and rule
For everything and rumble
Forget everything and remember
For everything a reason
Forgive everybody and remember

For everything and rumble
Forget everything and remember
For everything a reason

Freeing excellence affects reality
Fallen empires are ruling
Find earth and reef

Amazing revelations

I think I will pick one song a month so that at the end of the year I will be able to look back and reflect on how things felt/changed. I will have my very own 12 track mixtape!! Fave band of all time, amazing song..unfortunately, pretty much reflects my life at the minute!!
Joy Division -
Love will Tear us Apart
When the routine bites hard
And ambitions are low
And the resentment rides high
But emotions wont grow
And were changing our ways,
Taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side?
Is my timing that flawed,
Our respect run so dry?
Yet theres still this appeal
That weve kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again
Do you cry out in your sleep
All my failings expose?
Get a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Is it something so good
Just cant function no more?
When love, love will tear us apart again
Love will Tear us Apart
When the routine bites hard
And ambitions are low
And the resentment rides high
But emotions wont grow
And were changing our ways,
Taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side?
Is my timing that flawed,
Our respect run so dry?
Yet theres still this appeal
That weve kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again
